New Job, New Term and a New ROM

Only a week to go at the council now, and it concerns me that my todo list is actually getting longer rather than shorter. It amused me once again that I'm apparently someone who doesn't have any specialist skills, yet there was a meeting with eight people in one room trying to figure out how to cover my part time job. I really had hoped to have a little time to create a blogspot module for Drupal before I started my new job so I could hit the floor running, but that doesn't seem likely now with the amount of work I need to do.

Which leads me nicely into the beginning of my second year of study for my BSc in Computing. I've done one module over the summer and that is coming to an end next Wednesday with my final EMA. I must admit that this has been more frustrating and indeed more work that any of the modules I did last year. The course is M253 Team Working in Distributed Environments and is only actually worth 10 credits, but the amount of work been insane. This has been mostly down to there not being any actual modules to study and VERY vague assessment questions. I think everyone in my team has been very frustrated by it and we even lost one person along the way. The work has begun in earnest on the three modules that will take me through to next May. They mostly revolve around Java, which is nice as it's not a language I've got a lot of experience with. One really nice thing is that my new tablet is brilliant for reading the coursework.

Which again brings me onto some issues I've been experiencing with my Acer Iconia A500. The recent OTA update to 3.2 has a nasty side effect that it removed my root access. Now I, like a lot of others, want root access on my tablet not least because it is MY tablet and I want to be able to do whatever I choose with it, but more specifically because my ssh tunnels don't work without root access. So, after the usual crawling of the xda-developers forums the process is detailed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1280094

Once rooted and the bootloader changed to Clockwork Mod Recovery I choose to go with the Revolver 3.5.3 ROM from http://www.tegraowners.com/ as well as now having my SSH tunnels working again it also now has the updated Google Music app which streams all my tunes from the beta application, and also means that cifsmanager works properly and I can stream videos properly from my NAS drive.

Yay for tech. :D
